This article reveals a key difference between the mindsets of the political Right and the political Left. It discusses American abuse survivors who voted for Trump. They saw Trump as a strong protector, a model of their best selves, and someone who would never let himself be abused. Commonly, the political Right views the world in us vs. them, protect-us-from-the-enemy terms. The political Left often has a friendlier view of the world and of foreign people and ideas. Hence the different reactions from the Right and the Left to issues such as keeping the borders open.
