A not-so-hostile takeover by The Spyders
You can plan and plot the course of your life all you like, but a sudden rip in the fabric of the universe can catapult you into a state of absolute chaos, and you start feeling like you’ve time warped into some bizarre version of Wonderland.
I learnt that the hard way.
Last week, I was supposed to write two guest posts for Holly Jahangiri’s wonderful blog. The first was about my journey as a writer.
Here’s a link to that post.
The second post was supposed to be all about my soon-to-be-released debut novel, Along Came A Spyder, the story of a seventeen year old girl who wants to be a spy.
The first post went smoothly, and then the fun began.
Holly and I were locked out of her blog by…. I can’t even say it aloud!
I’ll just show you, instead.
Okay, so it wasn’t so hostile after all, since there weren’t any weapons involved.
Still, The Spyders totally hijacked my post!
Those spies are so out of control! Hmph!
Samira Joshi, the protagonist of my novel, went live on Holly’s blog to talk about The Spyders.
Here’s an excerpt:
“I know why you’re here.
You have questions, right? Too many loose ends, too many incomplete stories. You tried connecting the dots, but you need more info. You want some answers, and you want them now. Fair enough.
You’ve come to the right place. It’s my job to tell you what you want to know — if you have the required security clearance, since most of what I’m about to tell you is highly classified.
How do you get the clearance?
Not to be rude or anything, but if you need to ask, maybe you shouldn’t be here.
Fine!
In the interests of full disclosure, and since my therapist wants me to try to be less obstructive about… well… everything, I will guide you to the ISRO liaison office in Mumbai.
Go the file-room in the basement. There will be a guy wearing a grey safari suit. That’s your guy.”
You can read the whole post here.
Well, all’s well that ends well.
Holly got her blog back, safe and sound.
Her readers got to meet the coolest teen spies on this side of the Indian subcontinent.
Who cares about a miffed author, right?
Again, hmph!
The Spyders are back in Mumbai, plotting their next outing.
Do subscribe to my newsletter to stay updated on all their exploits, as well as for updates on my book, Along Came A Spyder.
