A Promise to My Land (A Poem)
To the world blind to the “live manslaughter,” here is my message to you all. This poem is dedicated to the Holy Land — Palestine.
By Areeba Ashrafi
A blind world that can not see,
A crying child that can not flee.
A mother holding her newborn child,
filled with dirt, blood and grime,
she stares at his face for hours long
that face she had awaited for nine months long.
A pleading mother raising her hands
and asking for mercy and help.
Oh, blind world! Do you not see?
A crying child that can not flee?
A grandmother sitting on her land
and holding a promise to her motherland
She is determined — SHE WILL NOT FLEE!
Oh, Blind world! Why can’t you see?
I made a promise to my motherland.
This pact is strong and shall not break
You try hard as your leaders state
So, here’s my message to the oppressing state —
THIS LAND IS MINE, AND I AM HERE TO STAY!
Premise of the Poem:
Before you jump with negativity in comments, I want to state. I am not against any religion, but I can not and WILL NOT stay silent when newborns are killed inside their mother’s bellies and families are brutally eradicated from the face of the earth.
