Every day, billions of people worldwide wake up to a harsh reality. While a small group of individuals — centibillionaires — enjoy the luxury of fortunes surpassing $100 billion, many cannot afford basic necessities like water, food, or shelter.
In sub-Saharan Africa alone, over 250 million people face hunger daily. Children die from malnutrition, and parents are forced to make impossible choices between feeding their families or paying for medicine.
According to the World Bank Group, 8.5 percent of the global population — almost 700 million people — live today on less than $2.15 per day, the extreme poverty line relevant for low-income countries. Three-quarters of all people in extreme poverty live in Sub-Saharan Africa or in fragile and conflict-affected countries.
Meanwhile, the world’s richest people, like Elon Musk, Jeff Bezos, and Bernard Arnault, spend billions on personal ventures and luxury.
