What if a few minutes each night could bring you closer to achieving your biggest dreams? Could you do this one thing for at least 10–15 minutes each night if you knew it could change your life?

While a well-structured evening routine is a solid idea, if you implement this one evening habit alone, it will accelerate your personal growth and help you accomplish your goals!

READ my friends. READ!!!

For starters, did you know reading reduces stress by 68%? That’s huge! More than half of your stress can be reduced by this simple habit unless you’re reading about mass murders and end up giving yourself nightmares.

Or something depressing. I had to stop reading Brooke Shields’ book “Down Came the Rain” because it was affecting my sleep and my mood in the morning. Postpartum Depression is a crazy subject but I digress…

With that said, here’s why.

Reading primes your brain with what you are reading, which is why this next point is important.

Read About What You Want to Accomplish

Bingo! If you want to change your life and accomplish your goals, get into the habit of reading before bed, at least 10–15 minutes, about what you want to accomplish!

It’s that simple, and I have a few recommendations.

If you have a goal to wake up and be more productive, read a book about it.

I was already waking up earlier and naturally (without an alarm) but I was kind of fumbling through my mornings not being as productive as I knew I could be.

I read Miracle Morning by Hal Elrod before bed every night and it helped me implement a more consistent morning routine that has helped me to accomplish my goals.

This isn’t your typical “Wake up at 4 am to be successful” book so don’t skip it if that is what you are thinking!!

Another example that I can share. If you want to build a morning routine of working out, educate yourself on the topic before you go to sleep!

This was interesting for me because I hate running although I could run for hours during a soccer game.

But I realized I was more inclined to do HIIT training in the morning because I was reading about it before going to bed!

I’ve read several fitness books about strength training and weight loss but I recently read a book called HIIT — High Intensity Interval Training Explained by James Driver.

It was a very powerful and informative read. It wasn’t too sciency and it made sense to me as a soccer player. So guess what I do in the morning some days after my strength workouts so easily? I throw in some HIIT training.

Why?

Because again, reading before you go to sleep primes your brain on the topic you are reading about.

If you want to be financially free, read a book about financial freedom before bed.

If you want to eat healthier, read a book about healthy eating before bed.

If you want to be a better writer, read a book about writing before bed!

This trick is golden I tell you! And it works!

What About Your Thoughts?

This concept works the same with your thoughts, so be mindful of it.

Your thoughts are a powerful thing, especially before bed.

If you think positive thoughts, generally you will wake up in a good mood but the opposite can happen.

If you go to bed thinking “Woe is me, I feel like shit and I am tired”, you will likely wake up feeling like shit and tired the next morning.

I tested this hypothesis for many years without even knowing it so please don’t test it yourself. Go to bed happy and thinking positively.

Read up on a topic you are interested in that is linked to a goal you set for yourself and make sure it’s the last thing you do before going to sleep.

Bonus: Implement These Three Steps to Accomplish Your Goals Fast!

  1. Read about what you want to achieve, as I stated above. Don’t deprive yourself any longer. Reading before bed is linked to better sleep but reading about a topic related to a goal you want to accomplish before bed is a game changer!
  2. Practice makes perfect. As you are reading about the topic of the goal you want to accomplish, make sure you are working towards it. Practice what you are reading about and implement it into your daily life. Knowledge is power but only when the knowledge is being used!
  3. Document your journey and write down your goals and progress! You can use a journal, calendar, or app depending on what you are trying to accomplish. Ultimately, documenting your progress as you work towards your goals helps to hold you accountable.
