Pros and cons of foreign language learning at primary school.
🌐 In today’s world knowing various languages is essential. Knowing any foreign language is a perk. People try to learn as many languages as they can. That’s why many careful parents teach their children a foreign language at a very young age, when they are under 6 or still studying at primary school 🏫.
Some experts are also of the same opinion. They are convinced of its efficiency, whereas others think it is a hoax. The reason why experts claim that a person should start learning at a young age has a scientific explanation.
- It is because of the brain’s elasticity and rapid neural formation that young children are able to learn language at a fast rate. This is sometimes referred to as the critical period.🙃
- Children who learn a foreign language before age 6 use the same part of the brain to acquire that second language that they use to learn their mother language.
- Younger learners are also uninhibited by the fear of making mistakes, which is sometimes an obstacle for older beginner🤷🏼♀️.
These are the advantages of learning languages at a young age, but for sure there are also disadvantages
1. Learning a new language at a young age may be confusing.👶🏼
2. This learning can delay the development of the child’s first language.
3. The teachers of primary school may not be trained well👩🏼🏫.
These are the disadvantages. In my opinion, advantages prevail over disadvantages. So, as far as I am concerned learning languages at primary school is better.
