AI Wrecked My Creativity — But It’s My Fault

I’ve always been a disaster at painting, but by some irony of fate, some of my most vivid memories are of the moments I would finger paint with my mum on the blue carpeted floor of our one-bed flat. The wonder of finding out what shape my colourful fingerprints would create, the joy of giving them meaning — a butterfly, a bird, a planet — the smell of the paint as it dried, the cold feel of the floppy paper in my hands, as I lifted it up to show my dad the result.

My truest talent has always been writing. I could never quite express myself fully through shapes or colours, but words always came naturally. I started by playing with poetry and songs, rhyme and rhythm, and the musicality of language. Words fascinated me. How they looked, how they sounded, how they felt in the mouth and on paper. Soon after I learned how to read and write, I became obsessed with finding new tricks of the language, new ways to create images and express feelings or messages, through words.

As I grew up, writing became more than just an art form — it became a stepping stone towards bigger goals. My poems were soon joined by short prose, and then essays followed, then more complex projects, all bringing me closer to what my adult life would become: an existence framed by…
