Amazon launched a whole bunch of hardware products on 29 September.
It almost seems like Amazon’s new CEO, Andy Jassy, is flexing after its founder Jeff Bezos retired. With a product that announces Amazon’s entry into the ‘social robotics’ segment.
Since the failure of the Amazon Phone, Amazon has been quite successful with its other hardware products. The Alexa-powered Echo line of products introduced a whole segment of smart speakers and smart displays — much before its rivals at Google, Apple caught on. Amazon also bought the smart doorbell company Ring which is now being transformed into its own line of products for home use. The most successful Amazon hardware, Kindle, is a crowd favourite with no competition for miles.
This year though, a look at some of the hardware products makes one wonder — why is Amazon so keen on stepping up its home surveillance ambitions many notches higher?
