An Existential Crisis Masquerading As A Poem
Isn’t it cruel?
The way in which
humanity
is forced to endure
the curse of existence,
forever grappling with
what it all means — with life’s big questions.
How odd. Those most determined
to find, to uncover the so-called meaning
of life, the purpose of existence,
continue to cling to the quest
in search of a fabled truth
the more futile, the more elusive
the journey
proves to be.
Is cruelty the point,
or are we desperate to be — yet
to stubborn to admit
we don’t know how?
What would we need
to take this curse,
live our lives, bear the burden of existence
as if we knew all along life
was a funny, peculiar
gift to do with
as we please?
