An Open Letter To All You Republican, Christian Conservatives Who Oppose Gun Control
And why conservative political identity is inseparable from guns
Every time a mass shooting happens, Republican leaders gather to pray for families, communities, children, and schools but fall silent to making any changes that would restrict their rights while keeping children safe. The same people who are adamant that all life is precious, so precious that even a clump of cells is to be protected beyond question, oppose the laws and actions that would stop this monstrosity from happening. The same people who want to “protect” children with the Don’t Say Gay -bill vote for laws and legislations that require children to face fear at school every day. The same people who go to church on Sundays see it as more important to ensure their own right to a deadly weapon than to create a safer world for everyone.
The double standards of the GOP are laughable. If there was a background check and procedure as thorough as required for abortion, we wouldn’t have to hear about deadly mass shootings every week in the news. If every person who wanted to own a gun were required to get permission from the doctor, get a mental evaluation done, educate themselves about the dangers and reacquisitions of gun violence, go through a waiting period, travel…
