In the 1960s, a group of Italian scholars created and employed an electronic device for underground research in Northern Italy. They discovered evidence of an advanced pre-human civilization from the Eocene epoch.
This discovery sparked a multidisciplinary investigation by the Rabdo Team, covering scientific, esoteric, mythological, and science fiction aspects.

Recently, the incredible story of Alessandro Porro, an Italian engineer, came to light. With the assistance of a few skilled partners, Eng. Porro carried out a number of utterly strange studies into the Po valley’s subsurface (northern Italy) throughout the 1960s and 1970s, producing findings that are difficult for us to understand. This is the case that serves as the basis for Il Risveglio degli Antichi, Graal Edizioni, 2018* (“The Awakening of the Ancients”): a collaboratively written book written by a research team under the direction of Marco Zagni, intended to inform readers about a disturbing but intriguing tale that merits more study.

The “Porro case” comes to light

Motivated by his fascination in certain unusual geological formations on the Peruvian plateau known as the Marcahuasi plateau, Italian writer and researcher Marco Zagni made contact with renowned geologist Prof. Floriano Villa in 2000 through a mutual acquaintance.

Prof. Villa informed Zagni during the first and subsequent sessions that he had been a member of a group of “fringe” researchers in the 1960s and 1970s that included an artist who served as the group’s secretary, an engineer, a journalist, a doctor, and other researchers. There weren’t many other people participating, at least not in secret or with anyone outside of their immediate families.

The findings of those studies were astounding, to the point where the writers themselves were afraid to share them and would much rather keep them private. Later on, I will discuss this specific incident that led to the group’s dissolution in the middle of the 1970s. Prof. Villa had not heard from any of his former pals since.

Zagni found this story to be quite intriguing, but it seemed to have come to a standstill. It seems unfeasible to proceed farther and acquire additional details. At that point, Zagni made the decision to publish a “lure article” on the recommendation of Nexus Magazine director Tom Bosco (Italian editorial team); the article was issued in two episodes in the spring of 2006. The plan worked, and soon after Zagni received a call from Luciana Petruccelli, the group’s former secretary (she passed away in 2010).

Assuring Zagni of everything Prof. Villa had told him, Petruccelli also introduced him to Mario Miniaci, the group's journalist who worked for Il Corriere della Sera and La Domenica del Corriere during the research period. Miniaci (who was ninety years old when he passed away in 2009) was still able to recall everything and gave Zagni access to a wealth of other data, including the diary he had kept during his investigation. He had not seen Prof. Villa in a long time, so he agreed to see him with pleasure.

This came to pass through a meal that was arranged at Miniaci’s home, with Prof. Villa and Zagni both in attendance. Finally, a long-lost, strange, and forgotten chapter of Italian history from the middle of the 20th century has come to light.

The Astounding Discoveries of Eng. Porro

The key to the entire situation was an amazing device created by engineer Alessandro Porro at the end of the 1950s, known as a “electronic dowser,” which could detect the existence of unique waves he coined the term “neutrowaves.”

Though originally intended for use in mining research, the device has also proven valuable in the field of archeology, helping to uncover some significant discoveries in the Lombardy region (ancient tombs and building foundations), as reported in a few articles by Mario Miniaci that appeared in La Domenica del Corriere in the early 1960s. Thus far, the facts that we are working with are clear-cut, impartial, and registered; they did not pose a threat to the status quo.

However, after that, something unusual occurred. With the equipment in Eng. Porro’s hands, the ancient beaches of the “Padan plain sea” and the wreckage of big wooden ships started to emerge at tens of meters below the surface. This time, it was a matter of many hundreds of thousands of years rather than just a few centuries or thousand years. And the situation got much more uncomfortable when the device discovered, hundreds of meters below the surface, the remains of a higher-developed industrial society than the one we have now, dating to the Eocene epoch (33.9–55.8 million years ago) based on the stratigraphy.

It was 1967. Confused by what he had seen, Eng. Porro concealed the device’s operation and ceased using it in public. He kept looking into it, but he stayed out of the public eye and confided only in reliable people who helped him with it: Dr. Sergio Alberti, writer Mario Miniaci, geologist Floriano Villa, and the ardent Luciana Petruccelli.

After a few years of intense work, Miniaci gathered a great deal of material, notes, and surveys, and meticulously documented his research in a diary with the intention of disclosing the findings. As the revelations became more startling, though, Eng. Porro appeared less and less inclined to make the disclosure.

The research then slowed down, and the group disbanded in 1974 as a result of a startling encounter that Porro and Villa had with two enigmatic people who identified as the “Guardians” of the Evolution of the current human civilization in a location near Lake Garda. In addition, the so-called Guardians declared Porro’s impending demise, which came precisely two years later in 1976.

Since then, all of the research materials have been held under wraps in Mario Miniaci’s home; upon his passing in 2009, his family gave him to Zagni, who fervently desired that the tale ultimately be revealed to the general public. Diego Marin, Andrea Lontani, and I were among the other people Zagni enlisted to help with the fascinating task of analyzing the material; as a result, Il Risveglio degli Antichi* (or “The Awakening of the Ancients”), came to be.

A Civilization in the Eocene Epoch

To even begin to summarize the volume of data that Eng. Alessandro Porro gathered would beyond the scope of these pieces. A more complete view is only to be obtained by consulting the book. Thankfully, the translated version is now available also to English readers.

The most important fact, though, is that an advanced society, built by a different kind of humanity than that of today, would have flourished throughout the Eocene era, which spans from 55 to 33 million years ago. About 150 cm was the height of the Eocene “man,” with a skull significantly wider than ours (18 cm from temple to temple), forward-bent ears, a pelvis with significantly more bone development than “ours” and roughly three horizontal vertebrae integrated into it, short arms and somewhat stocky legs, and a vertebral column that ended in a tail with six heads pointing upward.

In all domains (engineering, industrial chemistry, materials technology, astronautics, medicine), the Eocene civilization was technologically more advanced than ours. They had constructed bases on the Moon and Mars, for instance, and had artificially created the satellite Phobos as an outpost against a hostile population coming from Ganymede (a satellite of Jupiter). The Eocene elite were then forced to hide underground and hibernate inside massive concrete spheres with a diameter of a few tens of meters due to a dreadful conflict that they had started with those of Ganymede.

In certain pre-alpine regions of Lombardy, to the north of Milan, precisely these spheres would have been found in significant numbers, down to a depth of roughly 400 meters. The discoveries made by Engineer Porro shed light on the interior of these spheres, which frequently had sizable panels with a wealth of knowledge inscribed in a language that the Eocene people had invented and deciphered. Additionally, Eng. Porro detected a steady stream of impulses emanating from a Moon base and aimed towards those spheres, indicating a surveillance and active presence.

Upon closer examination, some of these spheres appeared to be gone; the Engineer surmised that this meant that they had been destroyed in order to conceal their presence in the wake of his discoveries. The enigmatic members of the “Guardians of Evolution” (a group of people with the unique capacity to “genetically” preserve the atavistic memory of all the scientific and philosophical knowledge acquired over millions of years of alternation between the various human civilizations), would have later confirmed this, during the meeting on Lake Garda above mentioned.

According to what they told Eng. Porro, over millions of years, any celestial body, like Earth, could experience massive disasters like earthquakes and asteroid impacts. For this reason, over the course of thousands of years, various advanced human civilizations have occasionally sent men and resources to the Moon, Mars, or underground on Earth to protect the species. After millennia, after the danger had passed or the tragic event had occurred, the people would return or resurface on Earth.

The Great Sphere

In certain ways, the material Porro supplied evokes some classic scenarios from the science fiction and ufological literature of his day, without diminishing the validity and importance of his research. However, there is also material that, in an equally obvious manner, echoes ideas found in esoteric and occultist writings published from the latter part of the 1800s. It is almost possible to argue that a significant portion of Porro’s revelations have been expressed through some exact, essential archetypes of both esotericism and ufology, albeit we are not sure how deliberately Porro did so. And it is just one of these usually arcane ideas that I would like to demonstrate presently.

The Eocene people asserted that a mysterious “Body” occupied half of Earth’s diameter and was seated inside the terrestrial globe. This “Body” was thought to have originated in a far-off region of space and was able to control people by influencing them and forcing them to do as it pleased. In actuality, the cells of living things were susceptible to a form of “radiation” (which is not properly defined) that this “Great Sphere” (abbreviated GS) could use to apply conditioning.

Understanding this, and desiring to break free from the GS’s influence, the Eocene people built a kind of shield that might still be in effect in the modern era. But the GS penalized this action because they believed it to be a rebellion by Eocene people. According to the documents that Porro looked at, “those foreigners who had caused the Eocene man to take refuge in the underground spheres had arrived on Earth from the third satellite of Jupiter” [Ganymede], “by the will of the GS.”

The GS’s ability to regulate people’s behavior would be predicated on moral standards that, for the most part, are not all that dissimilar from those of modern religions. Of particular, there are clear parallels with the modern notions of karma and dharma found in Buddhism, Hinduism, and Madame Blavatsky’s Theosophy. In actuality, GS punishments can be imposed not just on individuals who injure others but also on those who have the potential to provide good — or even harm — to others who ought to receive it but choose not to. Overeating, overwhelming sexual desire, and hunger for money and personal belongings are among other flaws. The desire or intention is just as bad as the deed itself.

The Eocene people were divided into two groups: those who were “faithful to the GS” and those who were loyal to the King, but were either agnostic or outright opposed to the GS. This division sprang from the question of the GS. The adherents of the GS, with their spiritualist, altruistic, ecclesial principles, stood in stark contrast to all the others who upheld individualistic, materialistic, and often even cruel values that were beyond the reach of our contemporary sensibilities.

The GS and its followers were depicted with implications that we would now attribute to the positive polarity (of unity), while the others, the GS’s opponents, were described with implications that would be associated with the negative polarity (of division). Porro gathered and translated writings written by an unknown Eocene author who was part of the later school of thought.

Prophecies and Warnings for the Present Mankind

Several so-called “prophecies of the GS” about to future events concerning the Eocene civilization are mentioned in some of the discovered texts. Some of these correspondences were addressed to the “first reader,” or the one who, with GS’s assistance, would eventually be the first to be able to read the documents and understand the Eocene people’s writing.

The first reader was put in a far-off future, 32 million years after the Eocene elite entered the spheres, when the earth’s magnetic field would also significantly weaken and the “living futures” — that is, modern men like us — would find atomic energy. Now, assuming that the first reader is none other than Alessandro Porro, 32 million years ago roughly correlates to the Eocene–Oligocene transition (33.9 million years ago, based on current understanding).

It has been suggested in other communications that at some point in the future (to be understood in our era) the GS would have directly influenced events on Earth. The King was extremely concerned about this, fearing that once the Eocene people emerged from the spheres, they would have to fight against the future living (that is, us) who were allied with the faithful to the GS and would ultimately lose.

The GS is in constant communication about this impending war. The GS intended to punish the Eocene people’s pride more severely with this conflict. As a matter of fact, the predictions state that the Eocene will lose, and that their defeat at the hands of a less advanced civilization like us will make them even more furious.

According to other GS communications, the male members of a population that originated from an unidentified planet would have given rise to the race of future Earthly beings (that is, let us reiterate, humanity) and evolved to the point where they realized, if only partially, that they were a collective mind. A sufficient number of people with a high “cardiac emission frequency” within a population would be necessary to generate a real collective mind. This trait was observed in the people who lived on the Moon, but it is regrettably not more clearly described in the documents that Porro found.
