My youngest daughter asked if her little dog, Wednesday, could spend a few nights at my house this weekend. I live with my stepmom, so Wednesday is happy to have two different laps to sit on when she’s here.

Generally, though, she prefers to sit in her Nana’s lap instead of mine. I’ve never known why, but she prefers her over me. When it’s time to go to sleep, she always sleeps on her Nana’s bed.

That is until yesterday.

Wednesday came to our house yesterday morning, and from the moment she arrived, she stayed by my side. I couldn’t figure out what was happening and why she insisted on being next to me.

  • If I got up to go to the bathroom, she followed me.
  • If I went into my room, she followed me.
  • If I went into the living room, she followed me.
  • If I had my door closed, she sat outside my door whimpering.
