It is not altogether unexpected that Apple has chosen to investigate using India as a potential center of manufacture for its iPhones. Apple has been attempting to lessen its reliance on China as its main manufacturing base, where the majority of its iPhones, iPads, and Macs are put together, during the past few years. In addition to the need to diversify its supply chain in the wake of the COVID-19 outbreak, the trade tensions between the US and China played a significant role in this decision.

The move by Apple to increase production in India comes as the nation is fast becoming as a significant player in the global electronics market. With a population of over 1.3 billion people and a growing middle class that is more and more interested in high-end electronics, India has a sizable and quickly growing consumer market.
