Art journaling therapy is a beautiful mindful practice of using a journal to express your own unique art and feel amazing afterward.

Journaling itself is a powerful healing tool to reflect, introspect, and express. There are so many benefits of doing this simple activity everyday. It improves mental wellness, reduces anxiety, and helps regulate the nervous system as the activity brings you more to the present moment.

What is included in the art journal is usually many things depending on your creativity and what you would love to use. For instance, painted papers, printed texts, paper ephemera, paint, collage papers, dried flowers, stickers, and basically anything else you can add to the art journal.

A lot of us are stuck in our heads, feeling occupied by so many stories of the past, present, and future. Art journaling is a way we can be more present and silence the mind.

There is a beautiful shift that can happen in your energy when you embark on art journaling as a daily practice and mindfulness habit.

Art journaling helps bring more calm, peace, and creativity in your space. It’s fun to do it alone and with others as well.

If you feel uncreative and sluggish, art journaling helps boost your creativity and inspire you with new energy.

Whether you are looking for a new way to release stress and anxiety, or a daily fun practice, art journaling might be just what you are looking for.

Here are a few art journaling prompts for you to inspire your creativity:

  • Try calligraphy using your favourite lyrics then use watercolors to paint and doodle around. There is no right or wrong way to do this, explore and play with what comes to your mind.
  • Draw your favourite flowers, if you don’t have any go online to google flowers go to pictures and see which one catches your eye, draw that. Or try drawing any flower that comes to your mind. Use all the colours you want and use your pen to write inspirational words around them.
  • Write a gratitude list but put them in geometric shapes, use the tools necessary for that then add colours.
  • Create a collage with old pictures or magazine papers, and add your word of the day and how you are feeling.
  • Dip your hands in acrylic paint and press into the paper, be playful and as childish as you go. We are here to have fun, you know :)
  • Draw the constellations, the sun, the stars, and the moon, dive into the limitless of the universe write any inspired words, and use paint and colours.
  • Doodle with a black colour marker on white paper, no rules, go crazy, and be as creative as you need.
  • What feelings are wanting to come out of you now?? write them down, draw them write your words, and script how you are feeling without calculations. Use any colour you need for this and draw what comes to your mind.
  • Do you know how to make envelopes pockets in your journal?? do that and use coloured pages or magazine pages for this. Use the pockets to put in letters to yourself or anyone that comes to mind.
  • Use positive affirmations that can support you. And doodle around them, paint the pages, use glue to stick pictures, seashells or dried flowers and leaves from your garden.

As mentioned above, there is no right or wrong way to do this. Gather your tools and your journal and start creating your unique art. You don’t have to make it perfect as it is already perfect and unique as it is.

I hope this helped!
