Ask Lewis: Problem Solving Through Game Theory
The long and short of it.
· Throughout our lives, we are presented with challenges and obstacles that prevent us from doing what we want or need to do. Often, we do not recognize or even notice these challenges and obstacles because they are small or seem insignificant.
· However, if small problems are not addressed early, they may expand rapidly and become great. Like a small insect landing on a pond, the problem ripples outward and expands, creating greater complications.
· I call these seemingly insignificant challenges and obstacles constraints. Some people have great attitudes and are highly motivated and even inspired when it comes to dealing with problems. …Still, certain problems in life cannot be solved with a smile and a sunny disposition. Many of the problems that come before us can be solved with game-based life strategies.
· Game-based thinking usually begins with simple graphs of pros and cons written out on a notepad.
· Creating these visual images helps us to define, recognize, and isolate these constraints, but also helps us to decide whether it is best to remove these constraints or compensate for them while developing winning game strategies.
