What is something called “Phone Anxiety” about?

Also known as telephonophobia, phone anxiety refers to avoiding conversations over the phone. Though many people dislike making or receiving phone calls, this isn’t the same as experiencing anxiety about it. One study found that phone-anxious people prefer text messaging.

Why doesn’t the “Gen Z” generation like phone calls?

Texting is thought of as more of a convenience rather than having phone conversations. It appears to me that speaking directly to someone involves having to show their true feelings, as the voice would give away what they really didn’t want to let on. The new data has indicated that the choice to text is now borne out of anxiety, with some teenagers telling experts that having an awkward phone call is one of the “top three things they would want to avoid in life”.

Could cell phones be addictive?
