Be Responsible For Your Life

Taking responsibility for all our actions shouldn’t be that difficult, right?

Taking charge of your life isn’t as hard as you think

Honestly, this is one of the most common momentum or impulse killers. Why? Because by the time you keep for someone else to take that first step, you must have lost the motivation or impulse that drove you to take that step. And guess what, many of us have fallen trap to it.

A gathering where people keep waiting for who will pick up the microphone and speak is a typical situation. Or a mistake happened in the office, but no one wanted to take the fall for it. All these and many more are citations for being irresponsible.

Being responsible means acknowledging the positive and negative consequences of all your actions rather than blaming them on external actions.

One mistake humans make is thinking there is always going to be someone coming to help them. Newsflash, no one else is gonna be accountable for you except you. No one else controls your actions except you, so no one is always gonna be there for you except you. This life and responsibility that comes with it are all yours. I mean, you don't see all these successful entrepreneurs or athletes these days blaming their employees or coaches for their bad days, do ya?

I also think it’s unfair that when you get a win, you take all the credit, but the moment you get a loss; it becomes someone else’s fault. Think about it.

It’s only when you take responsibility for your life that you discover how truly powerful you are. — Allanah Hunt.

Ready to be responsible and take charge of your life? Then note the following:

Firstly, you should know the difference between fault and responsibility. Yes, there are most times we have to deal with situations for which we aren’t at fault. For example, let's say there is a company going bankrupt and you are the CEO of that company. Naturally, it is not even your fault that the company is failing, but who has to take responsibility for it and put it back in order? Obviously, you. Or, you are the head girl of a school and there is a robbery. Who do you think will be held responsible? It will be you. Now, this is what you call responsibility. Here, you have no choice but to take the fall for it because you are the leader.

But mistakenly bumping into someone, spilling coffee on someone, not knowing how to take critical feedback? That's fault, and you should learn to own up to them by apologizing instead of blaming the other person and picking a fight. Makes sense?

Secondly, it’s time to dump the blame game. Like honestly, blaming others for something will only complicate matters further and often lead to arguments. It rarely ever solves the problem, so why waste time blaming others when you could just ignore it and go straight to solving the problem? Sounds better, right? I mean, it's understandable that your reflex reaction to a mistake or conflict would be to blame the other party, but for a peaceful work environment, it's time for us to change that.

People who blame others for their failures and mistakes never overcome them. They simply jump from one problem to another. — John.C.Maxwell.

Lastly, acknowledge the role you play in your life. Acknowledging yourself is actually very important, as it helps you to face reality and creates strong interactions with others. Acknowledge both the good and bad parts of your life and actions. Acknowledge that your life is your responsibility and don't allow anyone or anything to decide for you. Give yourself credit when due and scold yourself when needed and watch how your life turns out.

CONCLUSIONS

Responsibilities actually strengthen us and make us more goal-oriented, but facing the consequences of that responsibility is quite daunting and difficult. Because of our flight or fight response, facing the dire consequences of our actions is looking scary, but be rest assured that it's worth it.

In the meantime, here’s to everyone who is going to initiate taking responsibility for actions.
