Being more productive won’t make you happier.

Is it true that working harder will bring happiness?

Sometimes, we tell ourselves that the act of taking action and being more efficient will lead to a happier ending. In some cases, absolutely it will! But the overall idea and mindset of being more productive does not necessarily directly translate to happiness. At least on the deeper level of satisfaction.

And here’s why.

It’s a false narrative.

Yes, completing tasks in a timely manner or even earlier does bring a sense of enjoyment and peace. But what if I told you it is just a thin, skim layer of dopamine on top and can be easily scooped away? The desire to complete tasks is a false desire of wanting to prove yourself (or hopefully not, to prove others). The best outcome of productivity and happiness will always be a skim layer of enjoyment and nothing more.

Your true desires rely on a long-term plan, a long-term commitment, and a deeper understanding of yourself including your thoughts and feelings (Aka, your mind and soul). True happiness will always come from the journey and experience rather…
