Chances that you and your family have a favourite Christmas movie—something you watch every year that sends the spirit. You probably also have a favourite Christmas song. But do you have a favourite Christmas book? Or have you ever read a book? If the answer is “No,” or, “Yes, and it’s A Christmas Carol,” we’re here to bring some spice into your life.

Books should be a part of your holiday routine as movies and music, but in this decade, they don’t have to be cozy fireside fairytales.

I am not saying you have to stop reading The Night Before Christmas by the roaring hearth on Christmas Eve, but trust us—there’s so much more to explore. I read many books during my Christmas vacations and my favourite Christmas books have no shortage of warm fuzzies, but they're also morbid, modern, and, occasionally, downright hilarious. Today I will suggest some books to make your Christmas vacations more special.

1.Letters From Father Christmas, by J.R.R. Tolkien

JRR Tolkien's Letters From Father Christmas is a collection of letters written by the author to his children between 1920 and 1942. The letters are written in the voice of Father Christmas and detail the adventures of the North Pole's residents.

Tolkien's letters are a delightful holiday tradition for families to enjoy. They are filled with love, laughter, and a touch of magic. Each letter is a unique work of art, and Tolkien's love for his children shines through on every page.

Whether you're looking for a holiday tradition to start with your own family, or you're simply a fan of Tolkien's work, Letters From Father Christmas is a must-read.

2.The Valancourt Book of Victorian Christmas Ghost Stories, edited by Tara Moore

If you're in the mood for a little Christmas horror this holiday season, then you'll want to check out The Valancourt Book of Victorian Christmas Ghost Stories. This collection includes some of the best ghost stories from the Victorian era, perfect for giving you a chill on a cold winter's night.

One of the stand-out stories in the collection is 'The Ghost in the Clock Room' by Amelia B. Edwards. This tale is set in a remote country house, where a young woman is haunted by the ghost of a former servant. The story is full of suspense and is sure to send a shiver down your spine.

If you’re looking for some festive scares this Christmas.

3.The Twelve Terrors of Christmas, by John Updike and Edward Gorey

The Twelve Terrors of Christmas is a funny, heartwarming and ultimately uplifting story about the twelve terrors that beset the residents of a small town in New England during the holiday season.

The twelve terrors include such things as a giant Santa Claus that comes to life and terrorizes the town, a group of carolers who turn out to be zombies, and a group of elves who turn out to be anything but jolly.

But in the end, the residents of the town come together to overcome these terrors and have a happy holiday season.

This is a great story for anyone who loves Christmas, or who just loves a good laugh.
