The foundation of Italian cousine is a myth

What if someone were to inform your children there was no Santa Clause?

Even worse, claiming the red sauce so essential to Italian cuisine originally came from America.

And parmesan cheese was discovered in Wisconsin.

What the……?

Respected Italian food historian, Alberto Grandi, podcaster, author, myth-buster, culinary expert and professor at the University of Parma makes that very claim in his book, “Italian Cuisine Does Not Exist”

In an interview with La Repubblica newspaper, Grandi reveals his research proves, “Pizza became red in America. The plant is from America and so is the use of tomato sauce as the basis of our cuisine.”

He goes on to point out the delicious red sauce found in most Italian dishes was discovered in America when millions of Italians emigrated to the United States during the “Italian diaspora” between 1880 and 1920.

Grandi goes on to state many Italians returned to the motherland and with them they brought the ubiquitous marinara sauce so associated with the scrumptious Italian food the world craves.
