For years, I clung to the notion that success was largely determined by natural ability. I convinced myself that those around me who excelled in their fields possessed an inherent talent that I lacked. It made it a lot easier to deal with and I believed every-single-lie I told myself.

Sound familiar?

It took 54 years for me to confront the fallacy of this belief and acknowledge the power of hard work and commitment.

The old sage that all it takes is hard work and time is… absolutely true.

In my own journey of self-discovery, I realized that excuses had been holding me back, but I also learned that it’s never too late to break free from them.

The Tennis Lesson:

Growing up playing tennis, I assumed that success was determined by a mysterious natural ability.

There was one guy in our group who started off light, and I felt superior to him because of this. He was more serious than the rest of us, but I chose to ignore that and played hard against him as he started simply because it made me feel good because it was someone I was better at during that starting…
