Behind the numbers: the blind spots of neurotypical-ness.

When it comes to the hefty 80–85% unemployment rate of neurodivergent/autistic individuals, it is often wrongly assumed it is because of their lack of “normal” intelligence or their inability to process information “correctly.”

I started this article to encourage questioning our neurotypical assumptions since many of those assumptions are based on misinformation. Misinformation that is often encouraged by neurotypical society.

But even with just a cursory exploration into some of the nuances encouraged or made possible by LinkedIn, one is able to bring to light several issues effecting the quality of life of neurodivergent people as well as neurotypical people. Issues that if a majority of society were aware of them, they would be either shamed and embarrassed, or outraged at what has been allowed to develop.
