I swallowed my words, whole, and they made me sick.
I wanted to vomit them, yet I couldn’t.
I woke up in the morning with a headache.
Like Athena split Zeus’ forehead open, I birthed an ulcer.

Back to my stomach.
I had pregnancy pain for years.
I carried these words, for much longer than nine months,
and gave birth
to a book.

Finally,
I could breathe.
