This is a tricky problem, and requires a bit of algebraic manipulation to get our desired answer.

Before looking at the solution, comment what you came up with and see if you’re right!

Solution:
After reading the problem, it’s apparent that some logarithm properties must be used to simplify the equation.

We see that both sides have a logarithm inside a logarithm. First, let’s get rid of the outer logarithms in the equation by treating them as exponents, with a base of 4 (4 is chosen to get rid of both the log(2) and the log(4)):

After canceling out the outer logarithms, we obtain:

Now, we will use the following logarithm property:

Since the base on the left-side is 16 (which is 4²), we want to use this property to convert the base to 4, matching the right-side:

Multiply out the exponent and dividing by log4(n) on both sides, we obtain:

Thus, n = 256 and we have our answer.
