Canada’s Silence Over Citizen’s Kidnapping is Deafening
My Brothers and Sisters, I Need Your Help
It’s been 133 days since Frederick (Freddy) Wangabo MweneNgabo was kidnapped.
And the Canadian government’s silence has been deafening.
MweneNgabo is a human rights activist. He’s worked tirelessly to help displaced people in his home country of the Democratic Republic of Congo.
He’s also worked here in Canada at the Multicultural Association of Fredericton, New Brunswick and is director of the East and Central Africa Association for Indigenous Rights.
And he’s a Canadian citizen.
Yes, you read that correctly.
Freddy holds both Congolese and Canadian citizenship. He’s proudly called New Brunswick home since 2009.
On December 16, 2023, he was kidnapped in Goma, a city in eastern Congo.
Over 4 months later, he remains in captivity. His health is reportedly deteriorating. His family and friends are understandably distraught.
Despite this, countless letters and emails to federal and provincial officials for assistance in securing Mr MweneNgabo’s release have gone unanswered.
