Children Need Stable Home Environments to Learn and Grow

People in a civilized nation should feel a responsibility to respect and advocate for children’s health and well-being. However, despite being one of the most wealthy countries in the Western world, America fails to provide its citizens with essential resources such as healthcare, housing, food, and clothes. Many Americans believe in rugged individualism, which is counterproductive to solving major social problems, like homelessness. If people do not feel empathy for people outside of themselves and their inner circle, they may resist policies that provide financial assistance, investing in societal well being. One of the most inexcusable examples of America’s dereliction of duty through individualism is child homelessness.

Through the veil of capitalism, America concerns itself with increasing profits and revenue instead of investing in the people who make up the nation. Under this current socio-economic system, it does not seem feasible to provide aid to citizens when it is not profitable. It is unlikely that this dynamic will change unless Americans become more comfortable helping others and investing in community resources.
