The NFL season kicked off on Thursday, September 8th. The Rams are defending their Super Bowl championship against the current favorite to win this season, the Buffalo Bills. If you saw the game, you may have noticed that the players all had the phrase “Choose Love” on the backs of their helmets. What better time than now to promote a sentiment, a positive thought, a movement that promotes positivity and unity?

I mean that very seriously, and I have a personal example. I’m ready to really light into somebody as I write this, but the better choice is to choose love. I should think about that more often. We all should.

In May, after the mass shooting in Buffalo left ten dead, the Buffalo Bills (football), Sabres (hockey), and Bandits (professional lacrosse) teams went together to the neighborhood where the shooting took place, all wearing T-shirts saying “Choose Love.” The athletes united and chose that phrase to show support for the community. They brought healing and hope to an area subject to unspeakable emotional devastation.

Here in the U.S., football is the most beloved sport, but there’s still divisiveness in some of the messages fans see.
