The Boutique on Rue Cambon close to the Ritz Hotel, was extremely popular with German soldiers on leave during the Nazi occupation of Paris. Daily they stood in lines outside the shop waiting to purchase the famed Chanel 5, to send home to wife or sweetheart. Nazi officers did not queue. They marched in to make their purchases. Coco’s Jewish partners had escaped Paris by the skin of their teeth, finally reaching America to wait out the war…
