Cannes has already released its lineup for 2022. There were 17 films left to be added later. The festival which will take place from 17th to 28th May released the rest of the selection and also revealed the official selection of the Cannes short film festival for 2022. This year, the festival cheers the dominance of female filmmakers.

There are only two women to receive Palme d’Or to date. Last year, Palme d’Or went to Julia Docournou with her film, Titane. The first-ever female filmmaker who won this prize was Jane Campion with her film, The Piano released in 1993. Will it break this year because we have five women filmmakers in the competition section of the official selection?

There are more women filmmakers in the other categories but the percentage falls as compared to previous years. As Filmo Maniac has already released two of the most-hyped films that are on their way to the screenings, there is a buzz about films from prominent filmmakers like David Cronenberg, George Miller, Kelly Reichardt, Claire Denis, and Lee Jung-Jae.

There is already excitement among film enthusiasts around the world about this year’s festival because it will take place in its traditional avatar.

The competition section will have 3 more titles: The Eight Mountains by Charlotte Vandermeerch and Felix Van Groeningen, Un Petit Frere by Leonor Serraille, Pacification — Tournament sur les iles by Albert Serra. On the other hand, there is only one addition to the Out of Competition section which is L’innocent by Louis Garrel.

After the new additions, the complete list of the official selection for 2022 will look like this. Let’s look at it.
