What do you think French people’s favorite salad is? Do you think of a dish with greens accompanied by slices of cured duck breast, pistachios, and a diced peach? If you are a Francophile, whatever you imagine, I can guarantee you are wrong.

This dish is not served in any French restaurant because it is so simple to make, yet it is one of the most bought salads in grocery stores in France. It is a salad called Carrotte râpée. In English, it means Grated Carotts. Yes, just grated carrots.

There are mainly 3 reasons why it is so loved:

  1. It is simple to make. And I say simply because I doubt I even need to write a recipe.
  2. You don’t need many ingredients. Get some carrots from your fridge, and find a lemon and an onion. The other ingredients are optional.
  3. It’s simple and delicious. The combination of the sweetness of the raw carrots and onion and the tartness of the lemon juice is great. The raw onion adds a nice kick to the dish, and let’s not forget to mention the texture of the carrots and onion slices.

I even believe that it’s so simple, good, and most importantly filling, that it will certainly revolutionize the United States!
