We are living in unprecedented times. This is an understatement. With global infections totaling to a whopping 28 million confirmed cases, the SARS-Cov-2 virus pandemic has disrupted world order like no other conceivable thing.

Central to re-establishing normalcy is the development of a vaccine. As scientists all over the world struggle to complete this task in record time, a lot of unwarranted speculations and misinformation regarding the COVID-19 vaccines have been creeping up.

I recently came across a widely shared speculation signifying a possible adverse interaction of the vaccines with human DNA.

The claim

“The new vaccine for COVID-19 will be the first of its kind ever. It will be an “mRNA vaccine” which will literally alter your DNA. It will wrap itself into your system. You will essentially become a genetically modified human being.”

Sounds outrageous, right?

Well, it is not entirely false. There are a few truths in this claim.
