Dating French Men: The Good, The Bad, And The Surprises!
I left the U.S. to study in a city filled with other dreamers and artists like myself; Paris! I was full of hope and idolized French culture and the city of light. Before meeting my French husband, I also had the opportunity to go on a few dates with Parisian men. If you’ve ever dreamed of leaving your city to picnic by the Seine with a French date, this article is for you! French men are notorious for being romantic, well-dressed, and knowledgeable! I’m here to satisfy your curiosity and let you in on what French men are really like so you know what to expect on your next trip to France!
French Men are excellent cooks
French people are passionate about cooking, eating, or even simply talking about food! My French friends constantly chat about different dishes at the table, on our walks in the park, or even during their smoking breaks in the university courtyard. It’s not only the French women who love to cook, either! Though it’s surprising to my American friends who dream of their boyfriends being able to cook anything other than buttered noodles, French men know how to cook! The first French man I dated suggested he could cook for me and my roommates at my place. I was surprised and inquisitive about what he would cook for us that night. I dreamt of all the French dishes I had hoped he’d bring ingredients for; boeuf bourguignon, poulet basquaise, galette bretonne, soupe à l’oignon… the possibilities were endless!
He came to my apartment with a full bag of groceries and ready to work in the kitchen! My American roommates and I stared at him admiringly, almost not believing our eyes, as we watched this man cook with precision and care. He took a buttery, flakey quiche out of the oven, and though we don’t see each other anymore (I’m now happily married), I admittedly sometimes think about that quiche! When I told my husband about this moment, he explained with contempt that “la quiche est le plat le plus simple qu’on puisse faire. ” (“Quiche is the most straightforward French dish one can make.”) Though I’ve learned this and much more about cooking thanks to my husband, I still love une…
