Life is an incredible journey, and just like any adventure, it requires some planning, learning, and a bit of decluttering along the way.

Consider this your friendly guide to creating a life that brings you joy and helps you figure out some easy steps to make your life more enjoyable.

1. Setting goals

Setting goals is drawing a map for the journey you want to take in life.

Who do you want to be?

Where do you want to go?

What do you want to accomplish?

Set Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Realistic, and Timebound (SMART) goals that will motivate and inspire you.

Write them down — Think of your goals as things you want to do in your life. It helps you remember and focus on what you want to achieve.

Plan them out — Just like planning how to spend your day, plan how to achieve your goals. Break them into small steps, like deciding what to do in the morning and afternoon. Planning makes it easier to know what to do next.

Start — Starting is like getting out of bed to begin your day. It’s the first action you take to make things happen. Start by doing something small towards your goal every day.

Goals help you choose where you want to go. It will help you in spotting distractions along the way and help you concentrate your efforts toward your vision.

Eventually, with more than enough effort, you will be able to turn your vision into reality.

2. Learn and fix as you go

Sometimes, things might not go as planned and that’s okay!

If it’s not fun, you change the rules. Life is a bit like that — learning, adjusting, and making it better.

All we can do is learn from the mistakes we make along the way. In the meantime, we learn, create, adjust, and make changes.

In UX Design, it’s a bit like getting feedback from users. We’re not just making a design once and sticking with it. We’re actively designing as we go, tweaking and adjusting based on what we learn from our users.

It’s about making changes and learning from mistakes, all to ensure the design meets the needs of the user.

The more you learn and practice something the more you get better at it.

3. Get rid of things you don’t need

Think about your room. It’s nicer when it’s not messy, right?

Life is similar. Removing unnecessary things and focusing on what’s important makes it simpler and more enjoyable.

Imagine your life as a backpack. As you walk through life, your backpack can get heavy with unnecessary things. Thoughts that don’t make you happy or relationships that have lost their sparkle.

To lighten the load on your backpack, It’s important to take a look inside and decide what to let go. Just as a clean room feels refreshing, a simplified life can make you feel lighter and happier.

Simplifying doesn’t mean getting rid of everything. It means holding onto what truly matters, what brings you joy and fulfillment. It’s about making room for the things that make you smile, and people that lift you up.

Are there friends that make you feel unhappy or unwanted?

Are there clothes in your closet that you never wear? Maybe there are gadgets or books gathering dust.

Take a moment to reflect on your life. What can you remove to make your life easier?

By identifying what to let go, you create mental space for new and positive experiences.

4. Creating good moments and happy experiences

Life is like a storybook. You can add in happy moments. It’s about doing things that make you smile and creating joyful memories.

Imagine your life as a giant storybook, ready for you to fill its pages with your adventures and experiences.

Each day is like a new chapter waiting to be written. Now, think of yourself as the author of this special book — you get to decide what happens in each chapter and the exciting journeys you go on.

Consider this: One chapter could be about a weekend full of laughter and fun with your friends. Another chapter might describe a simple walk in the park where you felt calm and happy. Yet another chapter could capture a joyful dinner with people you care about.

These are the scenes that, as the author of your life, you get to choose.

You are in charge of the twists and turns in your life, the people you invite into it, and the places you visit. Even when challenges pop up, you can turn them into lessons or moments of growth.

Your pen, your paper, your story. A story that you will enjoy reading again and again.

5. Learn from Others

Life is an adventure, and one way to make it better is by learning from others.

Firstly,

Consider finding a mentor — someone who has succeeded in what you want to do.

It’s smart to listen to people who’ve been through what you’re going through. They might give you good advice that can help you figure things out.

Secondly,

You can learn a lot from stories.

Read books, and listen to podcasts or conversations to learn from other peoples’ experiences, what worked for them, and what didn’t. You can understand what might work for you by hearing about what worked for others.

Lastly,

You don’t have to do everything on your own.

There’s a quote that goes, “If you want to go fast, go alone, if you want to go far, go together” by Martha Goedert.

Talk to others, join groups, and share ideas. It’s like everyone putting their minds together to help each other.

In the end, just like an architect designs a building by studying different structures, you can design your life by tapping into the wisdom of those who’ve walked similar paths.

Conclusion

Now, as you pause and reflect on your own life, ask yourself:

What goals can I set for a brighter future?

What lessons can I learn from my experiences and those around me?

What unnecessary baggage can I let go to lighten my load?

How can I actively create moments that bring me joy?

Remember, your life story is in your hands, so embrace the adventure, make intentional choices, and may your journey be filled with growth.

Keep it simple. It’s your story, make it amazing.
