We can thank TikTok for the introduction of a new trend: soft girl summer. A soft girl summer is loosely defined as a summer embracing your femininity. It includes brunches and carefree vacations, but it is still so much more. A soft girl summer is allowing yourself to be vulnerable, eliminating worries and stressors, and slowing down to enjoy life.

Now, if you search the hashtag “soft girl summer” on TikTok and Instagram too, you will find a wealth of videos of women of all ages documenting their version of this hashtag. Videos ranged from soft girl summer outfits to perfectly curated picnics and everything in between.

Enter spring 2022. I had no love interests, and, just as importantly, no interest to have a love interest. My kiddos were spending every weekend with my ex-husband in addition to some weeknights, which meant I had a lot of free time on my hands. I made the conscious decision to spend my summer traveling, going to museums, brunching with friends, laying poolside, reading books, and practicing self-care in the form of monthly spa days.

Apparently, my summer goals aligned with a soft girl summer even though I am a woman in her late thirties. While I didn’t go full pastel-paletted wardrobe, I wore more dresses and rompers last summer than I’ve probably…
