Learning Everything I Need to Know Before My Visit.

My upcoming trip to Yellowstone National Park is scheduled for October 6, 2025.

I am immersing myself in learning about this incredible destination. One fascinating aspect is the park's vast and thriving bison population. These majestic animals often draw visitors' admiration, but they also raise important questions about their behavior and safety.

An Important Question.

For instance, what happens if a bison wanders outside the park boundaries? It's important to note that in the areas surrounding Yellowstone, especially to the west and north, any bison that leave the park are often slaughtered.

This practice exists because of concerns from local cattle ranchers who fear the transmission of Brucella abortus, a bacterium that can cause pregnant cows to miscarry.

Complex Management Issues:

Despite efforts to prevent bison from leaving the park, such as hazing, where animals are guided back into Yellowstone, these methods have not been entirely successful.
