Do You Remember The Barn Owl?
And The Woman Who Slept With A Monkey
Barbara Lorna Hudson grew up on a farm in Cornwall, studied languages at Cambridge University, had a long successful and varied career, including in psychiatric social work, and went on to become a lecturer at Oxford University. After retirement she took up fiction writing and internet dating; the latter playing a key role as subject matter in the former.
Although she has had two novels published, Barbara’s forte is short fiction. Her stories have won prizes and have appeared in a wide variety of publications both on and offline.
It was in 2022 that she realised she was losing track of what she’d published. Not all the magazines that had taken her material had survived. Her published writing was in danger of sinking without trace and being lost forever. She approached the publisher of her 2nd novel, Makeover, and asked if they would consider publishing a collection of her stories. Do You Remember The Barn Owl? is the result of that conversation.
The book is an eclectic mix of stories that — in the words of New York Times bestselling author Charles Foster — cover…
… everything: lust, ageing, loss, revenge, cruelty and redemptive kindness…
