A 2000 word short story
“Don’t touch the water,” Mama told us.
All the mothers warned their children. Stories were told, half exaggerated, half forgotten.
Mama said, “Don’t listen to the stories.”
That was easy; people didn’t tell them to us, they just said to stay away. No one told us why.
