How I manifested the ability to generate income as a digital writer.

I used to wonder what it’d take to make it as an independent, multi-faceted writer.

Back then, my idols were, and still are, Langston Hughes, James Patterson, and Christopher Nolan. I knew I had skills as a writer — I wrote essays for classmates not interested in writing, got into grad school off the strength of my admissions essay, and took AP English courses growing up — but I never thought of myself as creative or business-savvy enough to generate any income from words I wrote. Then, in 2020, I discovered Medium and instantly fell in love with all its offerings. It was that year I decided to commit to embarking on a quest to become a paid professional writer.

It was one of the greatest decisions I’ve ever made.

Newbie growing pains
