Eat The Frog
A simple and yet powerful productivity tip
Are you struggling with procrastination? Or you just want to become more productive?
Well, keep reading.
I once learned a trick from a book, and I always implement it in my daily routine.
It helps me finish my work with more efficiency.
It is simple: Eat the frog.
It may seem weird, but let me explain.
Imagine you’re in a restaurant and can order whatever you desire. (I hope you don’t start ordering the whole restaurant).
But there’s a catch — you must eat a frog first. (for the sake of the analogy, let’s say that it’s a very demanding task to eat a frog because it disgusts you.)
What would you choose to eat first? The frog or your favorite dish?
It would be wiser to choose to eat the frog first because if you start with the good food, you’ll not be able to enjoy it due to anxiety about what’s awaiting your mouth.
When you eat the frog first, you won’t maybe enjoy it but you’ll feel a sense of relief afterward, and finally savor your meal.
It’s the same with your work.
Before doing any work in the morning, start by tackling your most important and demanding task.
This works because our willpower is highest in the morning. Confronting your hardest task when you’re most focused ensures quality work and sets a positive tone for the day.
This trick is important because, first you’ll have to finish the work that gets you 80% of the results first thing in your day, and second, the rest of your day will feel chill and cozy since you initiated with the difficulty.
How to Eat Your Frog:
- Identify the most critical task the night before.
- Start your day with 30–90 minutes of uninterrupted focus.
- Avoid checking emails or social media before tackling the frog.
It’s as easy as that.
You just need some discipline to get started ;)
So, what’s the one ‘frog’ you need to eat tomorrow? Start your day with courage, and the rest will be a breeze.
That’s all for today.
