Even Atheists Can Pray
Agnostics, too.
Considering how prayer is mostly associated with religion or a visit to a place of worship, it is understandable why there may be a hard time believing even non-believers can pray.
Prayer is usually about communication to a higher power for seeking help in terms of strength and solace.
What if you don’t believe in a higher power?
What if your views are not dictated by a religion or a cult?
You can still pray.
Prayer is not a task or a ritual that is reserved only for religious folks or people who worship a deity. It can and should be normalized as an act that is possible for everyone.
People usually close their eyes and fold their hands when they are praying. Just this simple act can be followed by anyone with no religious affiliations to enter a calm state and not be distracted by anything external, as there are no visual stimuli. When in turmoil, just reinstating calmness can provide a mental makeup ideal for sailing through that situation.
When an atheist prays, they are communicating to themselves to rise up to the occasion.
They are not seeking refuge in a higher power, but themselves. Prayer for them can just be a reminder for whatever it is they are seeking is within them and how it is attainable.
Amen, which is usually used at the end of prayer, means “truly”. An atheist can pray and still say amen!
