The Westfjords are one of the most striking and special parts of Iceland. Let’s find out what to visit together.

Of all the waterfalls in Iceland, the most striking and particular is certainly found in these fjords. The Dynjandi Waterfall is located in the middle of the fjords and to reach it you will need to travel several hours from Reykjavik. This waterfall can only be visited at certain times of the year (from mid-April to early November) as in some sections of the Westfjords the roads are not asphalted and the cold temperatures transform the roads into real sheets of ice making practicability impossible.

The waterfall is gigantic and can be seen from several kilometers away. Once approached you can park a few hundred meters away and you can get very close to admire its majesty. Due to the composition of the rocks and the direction the water takes, this waterfall is also known as “the waterfall with steps”.

Continuing the exploration of the Westfjords we can come across wrecks of ancient ships that have been abandoned along the many beaches present in the Icelandic coves. The natural landscape and the particularity of seeing historical maritime wrecks are worth a stop and a few photos.
