Growing, finding my voice, and learning to take up space

Photo by Adrian Fernández on Unsplash

Her voice recoils

the misdeed of

being uncovered

catches in her throat

like a boulder resting

defiantly in a

mountain’s crevice

she trudges on

the promenade paved

with grit

freedom out of reach

her swollen

tongue settled.

Now it echoes

defiantly overflows

into the deafening

constricting silence

reminiscent

of floodlights on a

gloomy day

as the clouds hover

above life

on earth commanding

showers swell

with pride.

Girl, sing to the heavens

rising from the shadows

no growth ever

happens there

experience carves

her confinement

into a majestic sculpture

redolent

of liberation. Blossom unafraid

waves of her voice

ripple through galaxies’

revolving layers

you’ll always hear her roar.
