Good movies have great dialogue. No matter whether the character is a villain or a hero the words hit in the heart.

Sometimes I find myself more drawn to the antagonists of a film rather than the “heroes” or main characters.

One thing that attracts me to them so much is their logic. The way they see the world and their attempt to defy the norm. The things they do or say sometimes move me or shake my perspective in general.

A famous saying is that a hero can kill you for saving the world but a villain can destroy the whole world for you.

I am not saying that all villains are good or they need to be remembered but some villains are just broken heroes. The situation and circumstances make them villains. No one is born a villain.

There are many movies where the dialogue delivered by villains hits harder to their fans than many of the popular heroes.

I’ve listed 5 memorable quotes of different characters from different movies that are fan favorite.

1. Joker from The Dark Knight

“You see, madness, as you know, is like gravity. All it takes is a little push!”

The dialogue was delivered by the legendary character Joker in one of the best movies of all time “The Dark Knight.”

This dialogue hit me hard. If you understand the psychology of the character, it will help you to understand the deep meaning of this sentence.

He sees the world as inherently chaotic and believes that a small disruption is enough to reveal the madness lying beneath the surface of society.

Joker is one of the fan-favorite villains and his dialogue is popular among the fans of Batman.

2. Thanos from Infinity War

The hardest choices require the strongest will.

Thanos is one of the most powerful villains of Marvel Studios in their infinity war saga. He was a villain with some morals and rules.

His ambition was not to rule in the universe, not wealth, not power, and not name. We know these are the things that attract people most but he had a mission to bring balance in the universe.

He delivered this dialogue in “Avengers: Infinity War” movie in front of the famous superhero character Iron Man.

His only desire is to bring balance to the universe and he is ready to pay any price for it. Even if it requires killing half of the entire population of the world.

His purpose was good, you may argue his approach. But the dialogue he delivered has many things to say to the fans.

He said it requires a strong will to do great tasks.

If you want to achieve big goals you should have the courage to sacrifice anything.

The difficult decisions can only be taken by the people with strong willpower. He justified his extreme action with this one line and convinced thousands if not millions.

3. Bane from “The Dark Knight Rises”

“You merely adopted the dark; I was born in it, molded by it.”

Another dialogue from the Dark Knight trilogy.

“Bane” highlights his superiority and persistence by emphasizing that his struggles and early life experiences with darkness have strengthened him beyond those who merely faced challenges later in life.

This dialogue truly represents all the villains and how hard their lives were before turning into bad characters.

Heroes might face difficulties when they become heroes and think about others before them but these difficulties make villains, villains.

So, if you study the life of a hero you will see people who motivate them, support them, and teach them good lessons. But, if you study the life story of villains you will only see the torture they faced, beatings, and hurdles they faced throughout their lives.

They just needed a supportive hand but they didn’t get one.

4. Hans Gruber from “Die Hard”:

“When Alexander saw the breadth of his domain, he wept, for there were no more worlds to conquer.”

The dialogue is a masterpiece of his own. It beautifully describes human greed through a historical reference.

The greatest conqueror of the world Alexander the Great wept when there was nothing left to conquer. He had everything yet he desired more.

He might have wrong attentions but he was idealizing a great character.

There is no ending to human greed and the character justified it by his words. Hans had ambition and greed but he believed it was not wrong because everyone has it and the question is, was he right?

5. Killmonger from“Black Panther

“Bury me in the ocean with my ancestors who jumped from ships, ’cause they knew death was better than bondage.”

Freedom over bondage I hope everyone agrees with him at least on it.

Killmonger was the son of the prince of Wakanda who was left behind in this cruel world by his uncle King T’Challa. His father was killed by his uncle.

He paid for the crimes he never did yet he worked hard day and night just to achieve what belonged to him not for himself but for his people.

He believed that his uncle and cousin brother bondage to Americans and other nations and he preferred to die rather than bondage foreigners.

He alone fought with the whole army and became the king of his home country as well as the black panther.

At the end of the movie when he was defeated he said this famous dialogue and preferred death over slavery.

My favorite among these is the first one delivered by Heath Ledger as Joker in “The Dark Knight.”
