Okra was a staple in my household, going up.

I never really knew what it was, but mum always used it to make a wonderful stew with potatoes, herbs and tomato. It was divine.

It could be hit-and-miss for many people since it has a slimy texture. When in a stew, you can’t taste or feel that at all.

But, when you put the look and feel aside, okra is a healthy vegetable filled with nutrients, fibre and, of course, antioxidants.

By cooking it right, you, too, can benefit from the marvellous yet seemingly untouched benefits that okra can bring into your meal planning.

What’s so good about okra?

Okra is a highly nutritious vegetable containing vitamins and minerals like vitamin C, riboflavin, calcium and folic acid.

The actual goo that comes with okra is called mucilage, which is gold since it’s high in fibre. That slimy fibre sets okra apart for its digestive power, blood sugar management and helping your heart health.
