Four Signs You’re Rapidly Losing Muscle Mass & How To Stop It
It’s important to pinpoint the signs to devise a plan of action quickly
One part of ageing that upsets me the most is the rapid decline of muscle mass.
Sometimes I wonder how long it will take to regain losses after recovering from surgery and injury.
In February, I had a hysterectomy and was forbidden to lift anything. When I got the all-clear from my doctor to resume weight training — her only advice was to ‘take it slow’ and ‘not lift too heavy too soon.’
Recovery from a hysterectomy can be several months — up to a year, and I’ve taken it quite slow and carefully lifted a comfortable weight.
Now I want to increase the KG and intensity.
When you combine surgery recovery again in the mix — it’s easy to lose muscle rapidly. Some people can lose as much as 3–5 per cent every ten years after turning 30.
If you want to continue to be healthy and energetic and lead a life of independence — then it’s really important to maintain and build muscle continuously.
