From the USA to Germany, the Fight Lingers on
Immigration may be a privilege, but not a license for humiliation
In February 2020, when Corona threatened the world to shut down and manipulated many frightened artists to find other jobs, I was one to give up my singing and writing in search of greener pastures. Greener pastures were foraged here not only for a better career but also for a better place to live in.
My husband and I have been immigrants in the USA for the past 5 years, but the manipulative family policies of the USCIS did everything to stop immigrants from settling permanently on American soil. Foreigners could come to the USA on contract and work on one-third the salary an American would take for the same job, they could pay taxes, and they could have children who had the privilege to be American citizens, but none of these policies would enable a family to settle down in the USA for good.
Getting a green card to make America their home was a one-of-kind opportunity, that could only be gifted by the company the immigrant was working for. It was an expensive procedure involving a lot of paperwork, time, and attorney fees.
My husband came to the USA as a special skilled worker. This L2 visa allowed him to work only for his immediate Indian client. The visa was subject to renewal…
