Fruit Pickers in Far off Lands

a free verse poem leaving a covid free land to go to a high-risk country

Photo by Road Trip with Raj on Unsplash

The choice for some is easy,
The risk worth taking
To go and pick COVID fruit
In a far off land
While their home became COVID free.

Economy too strong
Companies leaving
Jobs are lost, so they
Get on planes
To risk their life’s to save their families
From harderships fast on the rise.

A government made up of army generals,
Jokers in the court without an economic clue.
Greed feeds mismanagement
With little care for the people,
Where is the profit in this?

Yes, it’s the same for many the world over,
These families live on the poverty line of life.
So to have less than a little is nothing at all,
It Seems the way in this new world order.

Thank you for reading. J.

Thank you Dr Mehmet Yildiz and the Illumination team for giving my words a platform. J.
