I can hear the rallying cry on Reddit. “Let’s sock it to those rich hedge fund managers.” Sure, they charge their customers fees of up to 20% on their investment gains and then use the carried interest provision to avoid paying taxes.
I would rather just pay a tax rate of 20%, but I am not rich enough and pay mostly ordinary income tax. I empathize.
