Good vs Evil… can Good Ever Win?
“I’ve found that evil usually triumphs — unless good is very, very careful.” — Dr. McCoy in Star Trek TOS, S2.E23, ‘The Omega Glory’
Granted, evil is a powerful force, so what does good need to do to be very, very careful. Let’s breakdown the major characteristics of good and evil… and make it personal by overlaying them into two opposing (fictional) characters competing for the same leadership position. What will it take for good to beat the odds and triumph over evil?
1. A Tale of Two Leaders
Here’s a story of two people, Bravo and Tango. They are both powerful individuals, completing for the same objective… a high-profile, senior leadership position. One character is mostly good, perhaps with a few not-good traits. The other is mostly evil, with a few not-bad traits (very few). Let’s see how they stack up against each other.
1.1 Tango, a truly Evil Person
Tango is pursuing a leadership position to further his own gains. His focus is on the contest and winning, and he has made his position very clear.
“When I win… and I will… it’s because I beat you… and you lost. If I don’t win, it’s because you cheated… and stole the victory from me.” — Tango
