Born 01/29/1960 in California. Greg was adopted as an infant.
At 16, won a silver medal in Montreal. He is the first diver to earn a perfect score from all the judges.
At Los Angeles, won gold medals in the 3-meter springboard and 10-meter platform.
In Seoul, during the springboard competition, hit the back of his head.
The next day, with several stitches, won the event, as well as the 10-meter platform, becoming the first male diver to win both events in successive Olympics.
Louganis retired after Seoul and announced he was gay and that he had AIDS.
Published his autobiography, “Breaking the Surface” in 1995.
“Other students called me: ‘stupid,’ ‘retard,’ or ‘moron.’ I wasn’t those things. I was dyslexic.”
